Work Life / Home Life Balance

Work Life / Home Life Balance

As a real estate investor, it’s important to stay consistent in an effort to build your business, without sacrificing your relationships and your personal life. There are only 168 hours in a week, and we need to focus on things that are important. For instance, the average family watches television for over four hours a day, a total waste of time. People get caught up in things that are of no value and don’t matter instead of focusing and seeing the things that do matter. There will always be things that pull at your time, and you must master what you do with your life, or your life will master you.

An average NBA game is approximately four hours. They play 80 games in a year, so that’s 320 hours, which equals eight work weeks. There are auto races on television, NBA drafts, NFL drafts, March madness, etc., and none of these things will change your life. You should invest your time in things that will generate joy, peace, harmony, and economic reward back to your personal life.

Some of you reading this are single, some of you are married. If you’re single you should have one evening a week as a date night, if you’re married you should have one evening in the week as a date night. Go out and enjoy dinner with someone you care about or someone you’re in love with. Have deep meaningful conversations, shut your cell phone off, and do not text or take phone calls. This is quality time with someone you care about.

Quit watching television and get focused on your real estate investing business. This will enable you to easily spend 2 to 3 hours a day focusing on the things that matter. On weekends, possibly a Saturday, do four hours of investing. On Sunday invest in your relationships with the people that you care about and love. Finding real estate deals will not be a challenge for you once you’re focused. Having a balance in your life is a cornerstone of happiness.

Your brain produces a chemical called dopamine and that’s what gets you hooked on fantasy football, it’s what gets you hooked on a television series that you just have to watch. That same chemical can react when you’re having success as a real estate investor. You don’t have to be a workaholic to be successful you just have to focus on what matters in life, the people, and what you want out of life. Teachers all have a plan for what they’re going to teach for the day, the week, a month, and you should have a business plan of what you want to do for each day of the week, the month, and the year. Goals become reality when you write them down, they should be on your refrigerator, they should be on your desk. Goals should be personal, business, and relational. Knowledge is power so keep learning!!
